Promoting Advanced Korean ITS Technology at the 2021 Brisbane ITS AP Forum

2021-05-20

MOLIT, Gangneung City, and ITS Korea participated in the 2021 Brisbane ITS AP Forum held from April 12 to 15, 2021 to introduce Korea's ITS policy, trends, and K-digital transportation companies. In particular, online promotion activities for Gangneung City as a candidate host city for the 2026 ITS World Congress were actively carried out.

In the Executive Session and Leader’s Forum, Korean representatives shared Korea’s New Deal Policy* and the status of ITS, and requested support to host the 2026 ITS WC in Gangneung City.

*Korea New Deal Policy

1.9 million new job created by investing a total budget of KRW 160 trillion (USD 140 billion) by 2025 to overcome the economic crisis caused by COVID-19 and design a new future. It is divided into two categories: the Digital New Deal and the Green New Deal.

  •  Digital New Deal: Quickly build infrastructure to increase dramatically the productivity of industry based on ICT.
  •  Green New Deal: Transition to an eco-friendly, low-carbon economy.

※ Transportation core strategy: Increase the number of eco-friendly vehicles for medium- and large-sized vehicles, deploy more of them in public transport, and increase the role of smart mobility, a means of transportation for one to two people.

On the Korean Digital Platform, Gangneung City and K-Digital Transportation Companies** were introduced. Unlike existing PR methods, QR codes were inserted into the panels so that participants could see the videos right away and more conveniently.

** K-Digital Transportation Companies: companies with competitive technologies related to C-ITS and autonomous driving, the main transportation field of the Korean SOC digitalization project.

Plus, video conferences were held with overseas ITS officials to share the status of the C-ITS and discuss cooperation plans, and through the AP Forum’s digital platform, ITS Korea employees participated in a meeting requested by an overseas company.

Because of COVID-19, this AP Forum was fully transformed into a digital event but Korea showed active interest in this event. Korea ranked second in the number of paid registrants for this Brisbane forum, which contributed significantly to the 2026 Brisbane ITS AP Forum.
