ITS Korea Successfully Concludes the ASEAN-Korea Standards Cooperation Network Workshop in Smart City and ITS

The Korea Intelligent Transport Systems Association (ITS Korea, President Heo Cheong-hoe) announced that it successfully hosted the 2025 ASEAN-Korea Standards Cooperation Network Workshop in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) from November 3 to 7 at the Koreana Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.
- The workshop is organized by the National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, with ITS Korea leading the smart city (ITS) program.
This event was part of the launch of the ASEAN-Korea Standards Cooperation Network (AKSCN) and aimed to enhance cooperation on smart city and ITS standards. A total of 11 public and private experts from nine ASEAN countries participated: Indonesia (National Standardization Agency, ASEAN Secretariat), Thailand (Thai Industrial Standards Institute), Laos (Department of Standards, Ministry of Industry and Commerce), Vietnam (Standards Agency), Myanmar (Department of Standards and Quality under the Ministry of Science and Technology), Cambodia (Standards Institute), Brunei (University), Singapore (Enterprise Singapore under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Smart Mobility tech company), and the Philippines (Standards Agency).
ITS Korea organized seminars and industry site visits to help ASEAN countries reference and adopt Korea’s best practices in smart city and ITS development. During the seminars, ITS Korea introduced its AI-based lane violation detection system, shared each country’s current initiatives, key challenges, standardization items, and domestic standardization examples, and discussed ways to strengthen Korea–ASEAN standardization cooperation. In the ITS technology presentation sessions, Korean companies SOSLAB and NFLUX showcased their 3D parking space recognition and management system using LiDAR and AI, as well as smart city integrated platform technologies for real-time urban monitoring, sharing various applications including airports and national pilot smart cities. Industry site visits included the Gyeonggi Future Mobility Center and Anyang Smart City Integrated Center, where participants experienced autonomous buses “Fanta G Bus” and “Juyaro” and observed Korea’s autonomous driving technologies and integrated operations systems firsthand.
ITS Korea also presented an overview and key programs of the upcoming 2026 Gangneung ITS World Congress, encouraging ASEAN countries’ interest and active participation. The 2026 Gangneung ITS World Congress will be held from October 19 to 23, 2026, under the theme “Beyond Mobility, a Connected World,” featuring exhibitions, technology demonstrations and site visits, academic sessions, and business consultations.
ITS Korea plans to continue strengthening and expanding the Korea–ASEAN standards cooperation network in the smart city and ITS sectors. Based on mutual understanding built during this workshop, the association will continue identifying standardization items and establish concrete cooperation models and long-term strategies for implementation.
President Heo Cheong-hoe stated, “This was a meaningful opportunity to share Korea’s accumulated ITS standardization experience with ASEAN member countries and showcase outstanding ITS technologies.” He added, “Through this workshop, we aim to activate private-sector exchanges between Korea and ASEAN, strengthen friendly cooperation, enhance international standardization activities, and provide a foundation for domestic companies to expand into overseas markets.”
