Gangneung has been running self-driving vehicles for residents and visitors since January 2023 and now operates seven of them, six on three tourist routes linking the railway station, Olympic Park and the city's beaches and one on a remote rural line. The fleet has covered 479,667 kilometres over 38,245 trips as of the end of June, ridership climbed from 2,869 in 2023 to 10,529 last year, and the city will add late-night services from the middle of next month ahead of the ITS World Congress in October.
