Gangneung, the host city of October's ITS World Congress, began a free trial of an autonomous demand-responsive City Call Bus on 4 August, running between Anmok Beach and Yeongok on a route serving areas poorly covered by regular public transport. The service follows a February agreement with Hyundai Motor and forms the first stage of a phased programme, with sensors on the vehicles gathering self-driving data along the route while the city analyses call frequency, dispatch patterns and boardings by stop to prepare for a driverless DRT service.
