Korea Expressway Corporation is using a digital road safety diagnosis technique that scans road geometry with vehicle-mounted LiDAR and rebuilds it as a digital model, exposing where rainwater pools or drains poorly so crews can install early drainage or repave before crashes repeat; it has been applied at 10 accident-prone sites and will cover about 60 by the end of this year. An AI pothole detection system now runs across highways managed by 59 regional offices, checking 216,000 kilometres a year, and pothole damage compensation fell 16 percent last year to 3.49 billion KRW.
