🔎 Getting Ready for the 2026 ITS World Congress

Preparations are underway for the 2026 ITS World Congress, taking place in Gangneung from October 19–23. The Congress programme will include ministerial and academic sessions, exhibitions, 1:1 business meetings, technology demonstrations and technical visits, along with special events including a drone show and ice show. Here’s a quick look at what’s coming up in Gangneung this October.

Gangneung is emerging as a real-world testbed for autonomous mobility, with new driverless bus services, expanded trials and growing ridership. Ahead of the 2026 ITS World Congress, the city is putting the future of connected and autonomous transport into action.
Gangneung's Self-Driving Fleet Tops 10,000 Riders
Gangneung’s autonomous fleet has carried more than 10,000 passengers in a year, with seven vehicles operating across tourist and rural routes. Ahead of October’s ITS World Congress, the city plans to add late-night autonomous services from mid-September.

Gangneung Trials Autonomous Demand-Responsive Buses

Gangneung has launched a free trial of an autonomous demand-responsive City Call Bus with Hyundai Motor ahead of October’s ITS World Congress. The pilot uses vehicle sensors and passenger data to develop a future driverless demand-responsive transport service.

Gangneung Convention Center Ready for ITS World Congress

The newly completed Gangneung Convention Center is taking shape as the main venue for the 2026 ITS World Congress this October. With the venue now completed, Gangneung is carrying out final checks on facilities, ITS infrastructure and event operations ahead of welcoming participants from around the world.

Gangneung to Become Korea's Driverless Vehicle Pilot City
Gangneung is set to become a leading driverless vehicle pilot city, with government support expected to expand next year beyond the seven autonomous vehicles currently in trial operation. The plan comes ahead of October’s ITS World Congress, with proposals also including an AI data center and expanded KTX services.
ITS KOREA Joint Webinar Series : 2nd Program with ERTICO
On 2 September, ITS Korea will host the second session of the ITS KOREA 2026 Global Webinar in collaboration with ERTICO – ITS Europe. The session will feature ITS experts from Korea and Europe sharing cases and insights on CCAM, carbon-neutral mobility, and AI & data. The European Commission will also introduce opportunities for Korea–EU cooperation under Horizon Europe and FP10, including potential areas for joint participation.
MOLIT Opens UAM Pilot Zones Ahead of 2028 Launch
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is designating new UAM pilot operation zones ahead of the planned 2028 launch of early commercial services. The zones will support testing of vertiports, dedicated flight corridors, and passenger, cargo and tourism services.
MOLIT Drafts Mobile Robot Act for Commercial Use
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has drafted a special act to support the safe use and commercialisation of mobile robots for delivery, parking, EV charging and more. The proposed law would also ease regulatory barriers across buildings, public spaces and construction sites.
SAESOLTECH Enters EU V2X Security Market
Korean mobility cybersecurity company SAESOLTECH has registered its PKI-based S2X CMS in the EU Trust Domain, the official security ecosystem for V2X communications. The integration enables immediate entry into the European market with cloud support and interoperability with other vendors.

Mars Auto Unveils E2E Self-Driving Truck
Korean autonomous trucking startup Mars Auto has unveiled its camera-based end-to-end AI trailer and Level 2+ system for heavy trucks. The company now operates 15 trucks in paid service in Korea and the US, with 2.5 million km driven autonomously, including a 7,000km US route.

Autonomous a2z Signs KRW 11bn UAE Self-Driving Deal
Korean autonomous driving company Autonomous a2z has signed an KRW 11 billion supply deal with UAE-based Space42, marking Korea’s first autonomous driving technology export to the Middle East. The deal follows their Abu Dhabi joint venture established in 2025.

Hyundai Motor Group will launch a mobile healthcare pilot in Jakarta’s BSD City using a Kia PV5 Cargo converted into a clinic. The project combines smart mobility and healthcare services, with plans to expand the model across ASEAN.

Mobiltech Showcases Spatial Intelligence Tools to Singapore

Korean spatial intelligence company Mobiltech demonstrated its multi-sensor fusion and calibration technology to Singapore’s Land Authority, exploring urban management applications. Its Calibration Suite cuts sensor calibration time from weeks to around 10 minutes.
